OLLI-USF Friday Lecture Series
Description: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at USF presents “Obama and China” as part of its Friday Lecture Series. Global problems cannot be solved without U.S.-China cooperation. Will the Obama administration’s “charm” offensive toward China foster cooperation on energy policy, climate change, nuclear proliferation, economic recovery, financial reform and human rights? What is the current situation on all fronts? Don Menzel is a past president of the American Society for Public Administration. He is an author and international speaker who has traveled throughout China, with the most recent visit in July 2009 to Xian and Shanghai.

OLLI-USF Friday Lecture Series
Description: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at USF presents “Quality of Life in Individuals with Dementia” as part of its Friday Lecture Series. There are three main areas that need to be considered to promote quality of life for those who have dementia: meaningful activities, medical issues and psychiatric symptoms. Learn about some of the strategies that can be used to address these issues. Ladislav Volicer, MD, is currently the courtesy full professor at the School of Aging Studies, USF, and external professor, at the 3rd Medical Faculty, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. He is recognized as an international expert on advanced dementia care and has published widely on the subject.

OLLI-USF Friday Lecture Series
Description: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at USF presents “Theological Aspects of Simone Weil’s Work” as part of its Friday Lecture Series. French philosopher Simone Weil (1909-1943), though of Jewish background, was attracted to Marxism. Later disillusioned by it, she explored Christian ideas and ideals. Rainulf Stelzmann, PhD, will discuss both Weil’s philosophy and writings. A USF professor emeritus, Stelzmann received his doctorate from the University of Freiburg. He taught at USF from 1963-2001.
